    Parippu Curry | Onam Feast Recipes

    Ingredients :Split Moong Dal : ½ cup
    Turmeric Powder : ⅛ tsp
    Water : 2 cups
    Salt to taste

    Fresh Coconut : ¼ to ½ cup
    Small Onion : 1
    Green Chillies : 3 – 4
    Cumin Seeds : ½ tsp

    For Tempering :

    Coconut Oil : 2 tsp
    Mustard Seeds : ¼ tsp
    Finely Chopped Onion : 1 tbsp
    Dried Red Chillies : 2

    Method :

    Dry roast the moong dal until light golden color. Pressure cook the moong dal with turmeric and 2 cups of water for 3 whistles. Meanwhile, grind the coconut, cumin seeds, green chillies and some water into a smooth paste and set aside. Mash the cooked moong dal to make a smooth paste and add the ground coconut mixture and salt. mix well and let it cook for 5 minutes. Heat oil for seasoning and add the mustard seeds and let them splutter. Now add the curry leaves, finely chopped onion and red chillies and fry until brown color. Switch off the flame and add this seasoning to the dal mixture and mix well. Serve hot with steamed rice and a dash of ghee.
