    • Chocolate Crackles Recipe

Chocolate Crackles are a traditional Australian no-bake treat made by combining dark chocolate, rice bubbles/rice krispies and desiccated coconut and then spooned into paper liners to set. This is a simple chocolate crackles recipe without copha.

In Australia, they're a staple at Christmas parties, school events, and holiday gatherings. There is no complicated technique or a fancy ingredient involved. They're quick to make, kid-friendly, and a great addition to any holiday dessert table.

If you are looking for last-minute Christmas treat recipes, try my Biscoff Truffles, Honey Joys, Avalanche Cookies, and Buckeyes.

    Why you'll love this recipe:

    • These chocolate crackles are quick and easy to make, with no baking required.
    • This recipe uses simple pantry ingredients and comes together in minutes.
    • They set easily and hold their shape well.
    • Perfect for any celebration.

    Ingredients & Substitutions

Dark Chocolate - Dark chocolate forms the base of chocolate crackles and gives them a rich, chocolatey flavor. I have used 70% dark chocolate in this recipe, you can also use milk chocolate or white chocolate.

Rice Krispies - Also known as rice bubbles. These add the signature crunch to the crackles. Other puffed rice cereals like choco pops can also work well.

Desiccated Coconut - It is a traditional ingredient in Australian chocolate crackles. It adds a subtle sweetness and texture. If you don't have desiccated coconut, shredded coconut can be used, though the texture will be different.

A full ingredient list with exact amounts can be found in the recipe card below.

    Variations

Swap dark chocolate with milk chocolate for sweeter treat.

Add more coconut if you enjoy a stronger coconut flavor.

Mix in a small handful of finely chopped nuts for extra crunch.

Sprinkle with extra coconut or festive sprinkles before the chocolate sets for a festive look.

    How to make Chocolate Crackles

Roughly chop the dark chocolate and add it to a microwave-safe bowl.

Microwave it in short intervals until it is melted. Stir until smooth and melted.

Transfer the melted chocolate to a large mixing bowl.

Add the rice krispies and desiccated coconut to the melted chocolate.

Gently mix until everything is well coated and evenly combined.

Spoon the mixture into paper cupcake or muffin liners. Gently press it down with the back of the spoon. Do not pack them tightly. If you want to decorate them with sprinkles, add them at this stage.

Place them in the refrigerator to set for about 30 minutes to an hour. Once set, the chocolate crackles are ready to serve.

    Tips & Notes:

    • Use fresh and high-quality chocolate and rice bubbles for the best results.
    • Melt the chocolate gently. Microwave in short intervals and stir in between so the chocolate doesn't seize.
    • Use the double-boiler method if you don't have a microwave.
    • Don't pack the mixture too tightly.
    • Use paper liners. This makes them easy to serve.

    Serving suggestions

Chocolate crackles are perfect for Christmas gatherings, school events, and any holiday parties. Serve them straight from the fridge or at room temperature in their paper liners.

They're great to add to the Christmas dessert tables along with other no-bake treats and cookies like Fruitcake Snowball Cookies, Pretzel Wreaths, Oreo Bark, Sugar Plums, and Monster Cookies.

These are easy to transport and ideal for serving to kids and large groups.

    Storage suggestions

Store homemade chocolate crackles in an airtight container. If your kitchen is warm, it's better to store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will keep fresh for 3-4 days.

If you want to store them for a longer period of time, wrap them in plastic wrap and store them in the freezer for 2-3 months.
