    Ulundu Kozhukattai / Uppu Kozhukattai / Kolukattai Recipe

    Ingredients:

    • 1 cup Rice Flour
    • ½ Cup Urad Dal
    • 2 tbsp Grated Fresh Coconut
    • 3 – 4 Green Chillies
    • Mustard Seeds: ½ tsp
    • Hing: ⅛ tsp
    • Turmeric Powder: ¼ tsp
    • Few Curry Leaves
    • Oil: 2 tsp
    • Salt to taste

    Method:

    • Soak the urad dal for an hour. Drain water and grind it along with green chillies and salt into a coarse mixture. Just run the mixer twice or thrice to make a coarse mixture.
    • Make the mixture into patties and place them on greased idli plates. Steam cook for 6 – 7 minutes.
    • Cool down and mash it. Keep it aside
    • Now heat a teaspoon of oil in a pan. Add the mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add the curry leaves and hing and stir for a couple of seconds. Add the steamed urad dal mixture and turmeric and fry for 3 – 4 minutes.
    • Then add the coconut and fry for a minute. Remove from the flame and set aside.

    • Add water, salt and a teaspoon of oil in a saucepan. Bring the water to a rolling boil and turn off the flame.
    • Take the rice flour in a wide mixing bowl. Add the boiling water little by little to the flour to the flour and mix it well with a spatula.
    • Let it cool for 2 – 3. When it is still warm knead it well to make a soft dough. The dough should be soft and slightly sticky. Keep covered till you use to prevent drying.
    • Grease you hands with little water and divide the dough into lemon sized balls. Flatten the ball and keep pressing with fingers to form a disc or cup.
    • Place a tablespoon of prepared urad dal mixture in the center. Carefully press the edges to seal the opening. Repeat the same procedure until all the dough finishes.
    • Steam the kozhukattais for about 10 – 12 minutes. Serve hot or warm.
