Everything comes together into a smooth, cozy spread that tastes just like a slice of pumpkin pie. It is one of the easy and delicious recipes to make during Thanksgiving and Christmas.

It is mildly sweet, rich, and spreads easily on toast, muffins, waffles, or pancakes. It adds instant fall flavor to anything you spread it on. You can try it with my Vegan Cranberry Orange Muffins.

    Ingredients & Substitutions

Ingredients needed to make pumpkin pie spice butter

Pumpkin Puree - Homemade or canned both work well in this recipe. Make sure you are using plain pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling.

Butter - Use a good-quality unsalted butter so you can control the salt. Make sure it is at room temperature for easy mixing.

Pumpkin Pie Spice - This is the star of the recipe. You can use store-bought pumpkin pie spice or make your own with my Pumpkin Pie Spice Blend.

Honey - Adds a touch of sweetness. You can replace it with maple syrup or powdered sugar.

Vanilla - Enhances the overall flavor of pumpkin spice butter.

Salt - Skip salt if you are using salted butter.

    Variations:

You can swap honey with maple syrup for a deeper flavor.

Add a 1-2 tablespoons of finely chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans for added crunch.

You can also add a tiny bit of orange zest for a fresh, citrus touch.

How to make Pumpkin Pie Spice Butter

Unsalted butter, salt and pumpkin pie spice blend added to a small mixing bowl.

Bring the unsalted butter to room temperature until it is soft enough to mix easily. Add pumpkin pie spice and salt to the butter and mix well.

Pumpkin puree, vanilla and honey were added to the spiced butter mixture.

Add pumpkin puree, honey and vanilla extract to the butter mixture. Use a hand mixture, spatula or spoon to mix everything until it's creamy and fluffy.

Give it a quick taste and add a little more honey or pumpkin spice if needed.

    Tips & Notes:

    • Use fresh and high quality ingredients for the best results.
    • Do NOT use pumpkin pie filling.
    • Use softened, room temperature butter so everything blends easily.
    • Adjust the sweetness and spice level according to your preference.
    • If you are making it ahead, let it soften before serving. Cold butter will be hard to spread, take it out of the fridge sometime early.

    Serving suggestions:

Spread it on warm waffles, toast, pancakes, or muffins for an instant fall flavor.

Use it as a topping for roasted sweet potatoes or baked apples for a cozy dessert.

Pack it in small jars and gift it to family and friends during the holidays.

Add it to a cozy fall breakfast platter along with other homemade spreads like Instant Pot Strawberry Jam, Raspberry Chia Jam, White Chocolate Pistachio Butter, and Mango Cardamom Jam.

    Storage suggestions:

Store the pumpkin pie spice butter in a clean, airtight container or jar. Keep it in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 weeks. If you want to store it for a longer period of time, freeze it in small portions or silicon molds. It keeps well in the freezer for up to 3 months.

    FAQs

Can I use salted butter instead of unsalted?

Yes, you can. Skip the salt in the recipe so it doesn't turn out too salty.

Can I use pumpkin pie filling instead of pumpkin puree?

I do not recommend pumpkin pie filling in this recipe. It already has sugar and spices added, which can make the butter overpowering.

    Can I make this vegan?

Yes, replace butter with vegan butter and honey with maple syrup to make this recipe vegan.
